It is about Mary Anning, the girl in Lyme who discovered the first dinosaur fossil. If you want that sort of thing, of course.

Hope to see you & Franklin at some point this weekend in Philly, if the planets align just right.Krishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04479177289466582728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18710479.post-89094553948669164492010-11-08T18:24:14.614-05:002010-11-08T18:24:14.614-05:00Happy anniversary...you look about 14 in your wedd...Happy anniversary...you look about 14 in your wedding pictures!

I'm reading an amazing fantasy series by Joe Abercrombie...the first book of which is called The Blade Itself. Also reading A Bad Day for Pretty, the follow-up to A Bad Day for Sorry, about A fifty-ish year old woman who, after killing her abusive husband, is called on by other women who are being abused and who single-handedly carries out "attitude adjustment" on the husbands. It sounds grim but the first book was really funny and fast-moving and fun...in a bloody sort of way.

I'd second Kate Atkinson.

And I recently read Katharine Weber's True Confections which is great.

Hoping to get to Philly this Saturday so that I can meet you and gush over Franklin. Well, I be well be gushing over both of you...Rooiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14855810263415029931noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18710479.post-89907055837675188482010-11-08T12:10:50.233-05:002010-11-08T12:10:50.233-05:00Hi Carol and happy anniversary. Thank you and your commenters for the book recommendations. Mine is:
The Elegance of the Hedgehog. I needed knitting reading so I downloaded it from iTunes (it was on sale for $9.95). It is not only an amazing novel but it is read by two perfect voices. This book moved my brain and my heart and from what I've read on your blog, I think you will like it.portkeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13966143903175090623noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18710479.post-41015679998038577152010-11-08T12:10:08.591-05:002010-11-08T12:10:08.591-05:00Hi Carol and happy anniversary. It's right up my alley - British, historical, about everyday people and not much happens. Really though I am loving this book. The characters are engaging, the books are quick reads and very entertaining. His other fiction is extremely beautiful and a real departure from the mysteries.

I also love anything by Kate Atkinson. Her Jackson Brodie mysteries are excellent, and her other fiction is very quirky and literate at the same time.

MichelleMichelle Strausnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18710479.post-56578450867592915252010-11-03T11:19:39.849-04:002010-11-03T11:19:39.849-04:00Sarah Waters: The Night Watch and The Little Stran...Sarah Waters: The Night Watch and The Little Stranger

Hans Fallada: Every Man Dies Alone

All three worth the read.
