Yup, definitely "knitting oddities". I remember hearing that voice on commercials, but I really don't think I ever saw that one. This needs more coffee...
My mom actually had one of those (though I don't think she ever used it) -- I remember coming across it about 15 years ago and desperately trying to get the dumb thing to magically churn out miles of open mesh. No such luck. What can I say? I was 12. Now I'm wondering if it's still kicking around somewhere...
Oh My Gosh! I inherited one of those from my grandmother when she died. I had no idea what it was, but I've kept it hoping to one day find out. Thanks for solving the mystery!
One wonders, of course, about the bagagge carried by the sort of person who'd not only create a category called "torturing kathy" but who'd post in it twice in two days.
Meanwhile, fabulous find. But how does it actually make knitting or crocheting go any faster (as if that were the point) or be any easier?
Oh, please. I know that you know that I know that you know that having a tag called "torturing Kathy" is really my pathetic attempt to make light of my deep and abiding love for you.
Hey, when's the next Interweave Cro-shay coming out?
Ah, K-Tel. Wow. Second only to Popeil for excellent products ...
Personally, the most disturbing thing for me was the woman in the green mini-dress using the knitter to make a scarf in the exact same shade of green. As for the others in the commercial, you gotta wonder, Where Are They Now?
I do find the category called "Torturing Kathy" amusing, though ... sorry Kathy!
Oh my goodness . . . my mother has one of those things! At least I think she still does; all of her knitting needles were stuffed under some towels in the linen closet when she took her 20 year break and I would be willing to bet that they are still there. Christ, if the woman can save a 15 year old tub of Vaseline, she couldn't throw away a satchel of needles and hooks.
Featuring patterns for sock yarn --for things other than socks -- from designers like Veronik Avery, Franklin Habit, Laura Grutzeck, MMO, Brooke Nico, Tanis Gray, Barb Brown, and more, published by Lark Crafts and available now.

They once had commercials for knitting (well, needlework) instruments ON TV?
Is that cool or what?

I remember that one. The ring on the "needle" really stuck in my mind for some reason.
I am *so* old...
I am sort of horror-fascinated with the part where you can just cut it anywhere (supposedly) and it won't run.

Oh my goodness! I just saw one of these at Goodwill last week. I should have grabbed it. Lol
Holy cow, I remember that commercial....Did you see that scarf? It's 2 feet wide!
Just recently, my mom gave me some sort of UFO with one of those attached! I didn't know what it was, and the yarn was cr@p, so I threw it out.
If I had only known...
Sufficient yarn....thats just awesome.
Best thing I've seen on youtube today.

Caro, you know I kid, right?
You could tell I was kidding by my secretly misspelling "baggage", right?

Is it just me or does this look harder than knitting the regular way? (And nice green mini dress!)
