Okay...do you realize you just called Marilyn's book second best?
Maybe that's what you meant, but most people think that "penultimate" means the ultimate of ultimate, but it really means the next-to-most-ultimate.
I've won a few bets with this little tidbit, because almost everyone who uses this word, uses it in the wrong context. Ferchrissakes...how often do you need to say "second most ultimate"?
See, and I thought she was leading up to TOMORROW'S entry, which would be the ultimate (as in final) book, with this one being the last-but-one, which is what I always thought penultimate meant. Not a judgement as in second best, but a place on a time-line as in next-to-last. I'd bet ya on it, Joe!
Carol, Your previews are great and helpful. Just received a copy of Knitovation; don't know what to say except, I wish you had written a preview before I told my friend to surprise me.

Oh Lord. Okay, I changed it to "ultimate." No more highfalutin' words fer me.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joe.
You were waiting a peneternity -- I mean, a long time for that one, weren't you?

Yes, Selma is technically correct, but I took poetic license in my interpretation of Carol's post.
ReplyDeleteDarn, I'd rather be poetic than technical. OK. There once was a girl from Nantucket...........
ReplyDeleteNow, about "opus magnificum"...
