A Christmas Story

The names and other identifying details in this story have been omitted to protect the innocent.

Once there was a woman who loved yarn. Every year, she asked all her friends and family to get her yarn shop certificates for Christmas. They usually did. Then one year, misguided relatives bought her a Bed, Bath & Beyond gift certificate. The card that it came in read: "We got this because we thought it might be possible to have too much yarn."

She bought yarn storage bins with it and sent them a nice note thanking them and explaining what she used the bins for.

Next year, they got her a yarn shop certificate.

Ah, the sign of a TRUE yarnaholic- it ALL comes back to the yarn.
Smart woman!

Non knitters just don't understand.

Mu husband adamantly refuses to buy me yarn. He thinks I have way more then any person should. He'll buy me books to use the yarn and bags to hold it, but he will never give me anything that would lead to more yarn (like a gift certificate). (but he obviously is unaware that books lead to more yarn!!!)

when will the non-knitting public realize that there's no such thing as too much yarn!

They just don't get it. I've tried putting it in terms they will understand- for my mother I compared it to her collecting those little Limoge boxes, and I explained that sometimes just the COLLECTING (if you say "stashing" that sometimes makes them worry more) makes me happy. They all still think I'm nuts. Sigh.

I wish my relatives would listen to my helpful suggestions like yours do! Maybe I just need to be more obvious...

I give relatives names, address, phone numbers. Yes, there was the comment of "You have enough yarn" when it exploded out of the back of the moving van when they opened the doors, and quiet whispers of "you can give this away...to local schools" I still get gift certificates and I love them dearly.

It may shock you, and you may accuse me of protesting too much, but this story actually did not happen to me, but to one of my blogreaders. She graciously gave me permission to use it.
