Sez the book description:
Sometimes you just want to cuddle up with a handmade doll of Mr. T! With Knitted Icons, you'll find patterns for creating dolls of the world s most beloved personalities: everyone from Madonna and Jackie O to Chairman Mao and Che Guevara. Each doll measures a substantial 10 inches tall suitable for posing on your desk, bookshelf, or other doll display.
Which puzzles me more: the notion of wanting to cuddle up with a handmade doll of Mr. T, or describing Chairman Mao as one of "the world's most beloved personalities"?
sweet FSM!
ReplyDeletewhat, no hitler, britney, lindsay, paris, nicole, saddam, GWB, idi amin?
they killed trees for THIS!?!
(runs screaming from room)
I suppose an "I pity da' fool" joke would be superfluous here?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they got permission from all the (living) celebs to use their images. I can imagine someone maybe pulling a copyright-clause if an unauthorized use of their "image" (even in yarn) were out there.
I pity the fool who chooses Chairman Mao over Mr. T!
ReplyDeleteThis just can't be real - I mean - why?
ReplyDeleteWell, you know, Chairman Mao was "Beloved Leader" for a long time. What I want to know is whether the Che Guevara doll looks like Gael Garcia Bernal. And does the Madonna doll have those really severe cone tits?
ReplyDeleteWhat the?!?
ReplyDeleteI think there's probably one born every second these days...
ReplyDeleteoh my
ReplyDeleteI want a "substantial 10 inch" knitted Dick. Nixon, that is.
ReplyDeleteWould that be a Tricky Dick to knit?
ReplyDeleteOh Michelene, I love you. I was also puzzled by the reference to 10 inches as "substantial."
ReplyDeleteBut maybe my husband spoils me. (;
Hee-hee-hee! Thanks for the funny. My mind is exploding.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd cuddle up with a Johnny Depp doll that could be dressed up in all his different characters...think there's one of them in there? ;-) LOL
ReplyDeleteI think the Wolvies should knit dolls of themselves.
ReplyDeleteThe best knitted doll? Bipolar Betty, hands down.
I'd take Indiana Jones, and his whip--but I want the Raiders Indy, not the Indiana Jones collects Social Security version now being filmed.
ReplyDeleteJohhny Depp would be fine as long as it wasn't Willy Wonka Depp.
Ooh, AmpuTeeHee, we could use an old pair of nail scissors to make Edward Scissorhands....
ReplyDeleteThere is a crocheted Jack Sparrow.

The Rolling Stone font for the title is a nice touch, though, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI'm torn. On the one hand, it just seems so twee. On the other hand, a pint sized Gandhi doll for my dashboard is rather appealing...
You may only knit it in organic cotton that you spun yourself on your charkha.
ReplyDeleteI love the off color stuff! I can see the ad now...a knit Mr.T on the display with the words: Buy the book fool!
ReplyDeleteWhat have they been smokin over at Rowan? But I would so be tempted to knit the Che Guevara doll if he does looks like Gael Garcia Bernal like Mel said.
ReplyDeleteChe Guevara? Why would I want to cuddle up with a mass murderer? I'm sure one could learn very interesting stuff about this character from one of the Cuban Americans. This is one book I can easily leave on the bookshelf.
ReplyDeleteChe looking like Che (live, of course) would do it for me. Others can cuddle up with their choice of man or woman- doll.
ReplyDeleteBut it is one of the weirder books...
Which James Bond do you suppose they used?
ReplyDelete"what, no hitler, britney, lindsay, paris, nicole, saddam, GWB, idi amin?"
ReplyDeleteAnne Marie - that's volume 2. 'Knitted Voodoo Dolls', with a free pack of quilting pins inside the back cover...
WTF?! That's it; that's all I can say.
ReplyDeleteThis might provide too many outrageous Christmas presents to pass up! Is Elvis in there?
ReplyDeleteWhoa -- the author is a designer that does stuff for Rowan -- not a Rowan book.
ReplyDeleteThere's a diff.
Linda
Apologies for the inartful phrasing. I didn't mean to suggest this was a Rowan book -- only that the designer has had designs in some Rowan Magazines in the past. (I can't remember if there's any in the new one.) The book is being published by Quirk Publishing. Thanks, Anonymous Linda -- and, um, no offense meant indeed.
ReplyDeleteFinally, the companion volume to my Knitted Historical Figures that I've long awaited. I don't remember if that's the actual title, but it made me laugh hysterically in the bookstore. And my mother and I share a love of Henry VIII kitsch--it has a knitted one. (Still not as great as my Henry VIII oven mitt.)
