The times, they are a-changin'

Conversation at lunch, during an extensive discussion of The Little Mermaid:

G: I like Prince Eric's dog.
Mommy: Oh yeah, the big hairy one. What's his name again?
G: I don't know. [looks downcast]
Mommy: Don't worry, hon, we can find out the dog's name.
G: [emoting] How, Mama, how? How can we find out his name?
N: I know how to find out his name. Google it.

My five-year-old son has grasped something that has eluded eighty percent of the adult members of any message board on the Internet.

God, I love my kids.

By the way, his name is Max.

Of course his name is Max. We're talking Disney here.
If it weren't Max, it'd have to be Jake.

Any internet or electronic questions should always be deferred to a child.

I often wonder if there was anything I "knew" as a child that adults couldn't figure out ...

This is an excellent conversation though, and proves that your kids know what's what.

I'm totally taken over by Disney Princess land- I actually could anwser that question for you without google.
It's great that your kids just jump into the tech realm.

Damn it, my IT degree and my husbands' electrical engineering Masters are useless!

We were debating where to eat out this weekend. My 7 year old sat at the computer and started typing. I asked her what she was doing.

"Typing 'Top 10 Restaurants in [our city]' in Google," she said.

Yeah, when my DD was 7 or 8 she first taught me that "Google" was a verb. Who knew?

Kids are definitely outsmarting us old people. And I use the term "old people" very loosely!

That's hysterical. And thank god that N was there to step in and solve the problem so G could finish her lunch without further distress.

And yet my kids refuse to Google, and still expect me to be the answer board. I'm doing something wrong =)
