For my crocheting friends...

... I recently discovered these upcoming releases:

1. Teva Durham's Loop-d-Loop Crochet: More than 25 Novel Designs for Crocheters (and Knitters Taking Up the Hook) with a scheduled release date of May 1st.

2. Couture Crochet Workshop: Mastering Fit, Fashion, and Finesse by Lily Chin, which is, I believe, available now, although I haven't seen it.

3. Sasha Kagan has a new crochet book called Crochet Inspiration. The release date is June 1, and the publicity blurb states:
Containing more than 200 swatch designs in her signature style, this is a must-have manual for beginning and experienced stitchers alike. Special chapters on fabric, motifs, grannies, and flowers highlight a myriad of patterns, including beautiful lace, shell, and cluster stitch variations, and gorgeous circular and hexagonal designs. Each chapter also includes stunning garments, such as a classic Chanel cropped jacket in woven mesh, a lacy shawl with leaf embellishments, and a 1920’s cloche cap covered in crocheted blossoms. Every one has a special individuality that transcends “here today, gone tomorrow” trends, so crocheters will enjoy these for a long time.

4. Just to torture Kathy, please turn your attention to Mr. Funky's Super Crochet Wonderful by Narumi Ogawa, coming out in July from North Light Books. I'm not a very good crocheter, but man, for ten or twelve bucks, I think I'd buy this one just for the title.

And last, and probably least,

5. Kooky Crochet: 30 Remarkably Wacky Projects by Linda Kopp, also due in July.

As the promotional blurb asks (rhetorically?)," Who could resist the kitsch of Sunnyside Up Potholders and the fun techno-geek tote bag embellished with emoticons? Or, rather than working with ordinary yarn or thread, try using nylon mason’s twine (for leg warmers), marabou boas, and even plastic bags." Nylon-twine legwarmers? Um, I think I'll take a pass on that one.

y'know, that little rabbit is kinda cute...
I don't crochet much, mostly edgings, but I do enjoy it once I fall into the rhythm. I'll enjoy peeking at these.
Funny- my word ver is "bunywrbt"

I am certain that Teva Durham's book will leave me feeling inadequate and jealous.
You might like to know that the too-clever-by-half Linda Kopp is also the author of that indispensible tome "Plushorama".
Oy.

Oh my. Is it as kinky as it sounds? Because I don't want those folks with the stuffed animals fetish googling their way over here...

I am still wondering why one would want to make "legwarmers" (leg irritators?) out of nylon twine? Simply because you can?

Nylon TWINE legwarmers??? Really? would they actually keep you warm? Or would the heat be fromm the friction raised? Ugh.

I know I'm definitely the minority here...but I actually want to crochet a Blue Demon Mexican Wrestler mask!

(and there is absolutely no sarcasm here...I mean..I really want one!)

Why?

sweet FSM, those last 2 books make me wanna hurl!

PS - my word is "leqahaar"; the sound of me hurling!

The Teva Durham book is something I would buy, for sure. I honestly don't see Sasha Kagan's design style translating into crochet. As for the Tiny Diva's book, I'll reserve judgement on that one. Besides, if I need to ask any crochet questions, I would torture Kathy with my stupidity. Because she's the one who taught me that half-double is the only way to go.

Um, Kath, I just feel I ought to point out that lovely Aponia is a newlywed.

p.s. did you notice I have a blog tag called "torturing Kathy"?

Sorry, C., but I still don't get it. Do I have a brain tumor again or something?
I hate when that happens.

P.S.: yes

Is that a crocheted gimp mask on the cover of Kooky crochet??????

Carol said...

oh sweet mother of jesus, i guess i have to go google "gimp mask" now. it doesn't have to do with the disabled, either, does it?

Aponia said...

Its actually not a gimp mask. It looks like a weird version of a Mexican Wrestling mask. The Luchadores would wear their masks in the ring and outside of it. The whole history and culture of the lucha libre is really interesting. Hence, the reason why I would like to make the mask.

And...it would be the absolute perfect gift for my very kitchy brother-in-law,

Hey, is that like that Jack Black movie?

Aponia said...

The Jack Black movie was loosely based on the actual thing. There are even Mexican movies staring Luchadores in full masks. So they'll be out on a date, in swanky suits, but have the masks still on. They literally wear them all the time! I only wish American wrestling could be so dedicated.

Super crochet Wonderful looks good to me! Just what the kids like and patterns in English-Oh yeah!

i just ran across this, and remembered that kathy also loves koigu, so this should fit nicely into the 'torturing kathy' tag...

While I have no desire to knit the gimp mask I am, on the other hand, really interested to know more about the person who not only thought about this but actually spent time designing it and making it. I wonder what other freaky and bizarre things they do in the privacy of their home?
There could be a market for these things at the bank robbers clothing web site.
